Your note about the OEOSC short course reminded me of a comment for OEOSC to think about. I read Dave Aikens suggestion for a business model that uses tutorials as a means of making money for the OEOSC. I fully agree that tutorials about optics standards are very useful within the optics community.

Rather than counting on tutorials, however, has the committee thought about adopting some or all of the ISO optical standards as US or ANSI standards and take a cut of the money for these standards? I know this is what DIN does because they have assigned DIN numbers to every new work project so that as soon as a new standard is issued, DIN has a copy ready to go. They don’t even vote on individual standards, they just adopt them all as they are issued.

Why couldn’t OEOSC do the same? Obviously some of the proceeds go back to ISO and some would go to ANSI, but the rest could go to OEOSC.
