Auditor’s Summary of Meeting

This meeting was cut short because D. Aikens was unable to reach San Jose because of inclement weather. A brief review of the status of draft standard OP1.002 was completed before the meeting was adjourned. G. Kohlenberg arranged for a speaker phone for conference calls to W. Royall, who was at O'Hare International Airport waiting for a plane to San Jose, and D. Aikens who was still at home. W. Royall and J. Hamilton agreed to lead the scratch and dig class on Monday afternoon. D. Aikens went over the slides that he had prepared for the course.

Welcome and Introductions

J. Hamilton opened the meeting at 9:08a.m. Since everyone knew each other, introductions were suspended.

Adoption of Agenda

G. Boultbee moved that the draft agenda be adopted. H. Johnson seconded the motion. The motion carried unanimously.

The minutes had been distributed by e-mail. G. Boultbee moved that the draft minutes be approved. H. Johnson seconded the motion, which carried unanimously.

Status of BSR/OEOSC-OP1.002

G. Kohlenberg reported that D. Bronstrop had asked about one section left out. The ballot will be sent out for final approval. D. Bronstrop asked about the limiting size of edge chips. He noted that a near perfect optic observed visually would show microchips. Therefore, a limiting size on chips is advisable. The group agreed to address the issue.

G. Boultbee moved that 3.6.1.4 be modified to include “larger than 0.5 mm.” L. Endelman seconded the motion, which carried unanimously.

Review of the changes: 3.1.6 added; footnote; Figure 3.

L. Endelman asked if the footnote is an acceptable method for referencing another document if this is offered as an ISO standard. G. Boultbee stated that this standard conflicts with ISO 14997:2003 “Optics and optical instruments -- Test methods for surface imperfections of optical elements” and probably would not be offered as a draft standard to ISO/TC 172/SC 1.

Adopt new paragraph 3.1.1.6, footnote, 3.5.14, labeling of comparison standard in Figure 3, and submit the revised document for a new vote. L. Endelman seconded the motion. The motion carried unanimously.

At the beginning of the development of this standard, the group decided to separate the appearance standard from a performance standard. G. Kohlenberg is asked to communicate with J. Salerno to determine that this standard is acceptable to the military.

Suspension of Meeting Agenda.

Since D. Aikens was not able to reach San Jose because of weather, at this point in the meeting the group agreed to suspend the agenda so that alternative plans for teaching the scratch and dig class could be made.
