ASC OP "Committee for Optics and Electro-Optical Instruments" American National Standards for optics are developed and maintained by ASC OP. Work is conducted through a series of task forces, each of which is responsible for standards in a particular category. Please select the task forces in which you would like to participate.

The Organization for International Standardization (ISO) is responsible for managing those standards that cover international trade. The American National Standards Institute (ANSI) is the official representative of the United States on those ISO technical committees (TC) that are of interest to US manufacturers. Therefore, all correspondence to ISO is channeled through ANSI.

Optical technical experts who establish the official US position with respect to international standards do so through the ANSI/OEOSC Technical Advisory Group (TAG) to ISO/TC 172 whose title is “Optics and photonics.” TC 172 has seven subcommittees to cover various segments of optics. Please check those working groups for which you have expertise and are willing to actively participate.

SC 1 - Fundamental Standards

SC 3 - Optical Materials and Components

SC 4 - Telescopic Systems

SC 5 - Microscopes and endoscopes

SC 6 - Geodetic and surveying instruments

SC 7 - Ophthalmic optics and instruments Please contact the Administrator of the ANSI/Z80 Committee for membership information.

SC 9 - Electro-Optical Systems

In order to ensure that all interests are represented in the development of standards, ANSI requires that OEOSC define specific interest groups that pertain to the field of optics, and to report committee membership by those interest groups.
